I know that some of you are excited for today, some are dreading today, some are hopeful and some could care less.

"OMG have you lost weight?!"

"You look so thin!"

I would be lying if I said I haven't said either of these before. But I know now how detrimental this can be and I want to tell you why:

1. Praising weight loss sends the message that weight loss = good, and weight gain = bad. The reality is, our bodies change A LOT over time. Sometimes we may gain weight and sometimes we may lose weight, but neither is bad. Weight gain or loss is a natural side affect of life. Also, we must stop promoting the idea that weight gain is the WORST thing that can possibly happen. Because it isn't at all. 

It is OK if you gain weight. You are not a bad person and we need to stop making each other feel as though it is a shameful thing. Plus, by highlighting a change in weight, it can also send the message that the person you are complimenting didn't look 'good' before. Then, if that person being complimented were to gain weight (again, which is OK and normal), they may feel as...

Changing your thoughts, beliefs and life definitely takes time and intention, but there are still things you can do now that will change your mood. If you are having a bad day or wanting to boost your self love a bit, try these:

1. Say 3 things that are going well today and something you're proud of.

Even if today sucks the most, I promise there are things going right, and you are doing things right. What has gone right today? Or this week? What have you accomplished recently that you can celebrate? I PROMISE there is something! Even if it's getting out of bed, checking something off your to-do list or feeding yourself, the little things matter and they count. You can say this in your head, or out loud. Even better? Say it in a mirror like you mean it!

Take Care's Self Love Workshop!!

It happened!! Another successful Take Care event!

I was SO excited to be hosting an event that would dive deeper in self-love and provide a safe space for discussions and positivity. I remember when I attended my training with The Body Positive I felt so at home being surrounded by like-minded people. I knew that I wanted to bring that to this event, even if just a fraction of what I experienced. 

Do you ever set an intention and say you're going to do something and then The Universe is like, "LOL" and does everything it can to test you? That was 100% me while planning this event. People involved dropped out, the venue was so hard to finalize, donors weren't coming through and overall it was just a mess. However, I knew that the reason I wanted to host this event wasn't about me, it was about everyone else who was going to attend. I reminded myself that I don't have to plan this event, I get to!
